FANDOM POLL: please pimp!

So amidst all the holiday gluttony, I saw and heard about a lot of interesting behaviour regarding people's fanworks and feedback on LJ. Of course these topics creep up because it was holiday season and there were jillions of fic and art fests going on.

I debated over LJ/fandom etiquette and fandom's complaints with my sister and the visiting star_maple which of course led to me saying "I MUST POLL THIS."

And they wholehartedly agreed. So here it is!

PLEASE PIMP THIS FAR AND WIDE!

What do you do in fandom?

fanfic writer
44(6.1%)

You post a fanwork on LJ. If you HAD to choose, what do you value more: comments or recs?

I'm happy if I get comments. I'm not bothered if my fanwork isn't rec'ced.

I'm happy if I get rec'ced. I'm not bothered if people don't comment.
44(6.3%)
Both equally. If I don't get both comments AND recs, I feel disappointed.
54(7.8%)
I don't care about either; my mom told me that what I do is awesome and that's enough for me.
27(3.9%)

Someone (NOT a close friend) has posted a fanwork. They also bemoan about the trouble they had getting some character/scene/atmosphere in the fanwork done to their complete satisfaction. When you comment, do you:

Offer suggestions/references/canon evidence to help them improve for next time.
93(13.4%)
Sympathize with their plight and/or focus on giving them praise for what they got right.
388(55.9%)
Sympathize and/or praise, and ask if they want your help and suggestions.
213(30.7%)

If YOU posted the fanwork on LJ and bemoaned about the difficulty of one aspect, do you:

Embrace suggestions from others who aren't close friends. They took the time to do research for you, they are just trying to help, and you WERE complaining on a public forum, after all.
264(38.0%)
Don't really want suggestions from others. You're just venting DESPITE all your creative research/effort - not for lack of it. If you wanted help, you'd specifically ask.
37(5.3%)
Ultimately, it depends on their 'tone'. Sometimes it'll bother you, sometimes it won't.
394(56.7%)

You have a fanwork to post. Do you post strategically (ie, a time when you think your fanwork will get most visibility when it's posted)?

I try to! I have an idea when is the best time to post, depending on where I live and when others on my flist check their LJ.
119(17.1%)
I don't bother. Getting visibility/comments/recs for my fanwork isn't important to me.
29(4.2%)
I want to! But I still haven't figured out the best timing!
108(15.5%)
Post....strategically? I just post whenever I finish something.
441(63.3%)

When is your best strategic posting time?

Which area of the world do you live?

Do you like bananas?

YES! Save the banana! They're going extinct!
214(31.8%)
How do you like them bananas?
137(20.4%)
Are...are you coming on to me?
186(27.6%)
Mmmm...deep fried banana....

Oh and feel free to comment and discuss/clarify/rudely point out what I did wrong; I love that. (Except the latter).
